[Rio de Janeiro] : Andrea Jakobsson Estúdio, [2018]

Commemorates the 200th anniversary of the Austrian Expedition to Brazil (Österreichische Brasilien-Expedition) of Johann Baptist von Spix (Germany 1781-1826), the first zoologist of Munich and the first researcher of the Amazons, and botanist and explorer Carl Friedrich Philipp von Martius (Germany 1794-1868). The catalogue comprises mainly original copies of the 18 main titles published by Martius and Spix, all rare books belonging to the library of the Barbosa Rodrigues Library of the Jardim Botânico. The library has 23 works by the authors, of the more than 30 published by them. Among the gems on display are copies of Travels in Brazil, in the years 1817-1820: undertaken by command of His Majesty the King of Bavaria, the Dictionary of dialects and indigenous languages spoken in Brazil and one of the 40 volumes of Flora Brasiliensis, enumeratio plantarum in Brasilia hactenus detectarum by Martius.
