Anton Dohrn : a life for science
Heuss, Theodor, 1884-1963Berlin ; New York : Springer-Verlag, c1991.The German zoologist, Anton Dohrn (1840-1909) founded the Zoological Research Station in Naples in 1872. It was the first of its kind and has since become increasingly important in the development of modern biology. One hundred years after the birth of Anton Dohrn, Theodor Heuss, first president of the Federal Republic of Germany, and a friend of the Dohrn family compiled a biography of Dohrn, which is incorporated in this book. In it, not only does he convey the family and personal history of Dohrn, but combines it with the scientific, cultural and political history in Germany and Italy at the turn of the century. This work is intended for the use of researchers and interested laymen.
