Volume I, no. 1 concerns the commissioning of the ship, including the text of President Truman's address at the commissioning. Regular features include editorials, crew profiles, "Male Call," pin-up girls ("Sweethearts on Parade"), cartoons, jokes, "Meet Our Chiefs," "What's Cookin'," and reports on liberties in Rio, Guantanamo Bay, Trinidad, and Naples, Italy.
