Please join the Department of Special Collections & University Archives in welcoming Deardra Fuzzell as its Exhibits Coordinator.  She will begin her new assignment on November 1, 2019.

The Department of Special Collections has a robust exhibits program that showcases interdisciplinary scholarship, highlights core collections, and serves as a primary point of engagement with the campus community and beyond. There are three major exhibitions in the Peterson and Munger galleries per year and exhibitions are planned two years in advance.  Deardra brings to the position a unique mixture of creative ability, project management experience, and technical aptitude. She will be a welcome addition to our staff, with a tremendous opportunity to showcase her own creativity and vision.

Deardra is no stranger to the Stanford Libraries and has served in a variety of roles since coming to the Stanford Libraries in 2010. In her current role as Cartographic Technology Specialist for the David Rumsey Map Center, she has a broad set of duties and responsibilities including lead technologist, coordinator of exhibits, and manager of the oversized imaging lab for Stanford Libraries. She also provides reference assistance and materials management support for the Center.

There are a number of notable initiatives Deardra has overseen or contributed to over the past several years including the Barry Lawrence Ruderman Conference and Exhibition on Cartography 2019: Gender, Sexuality, and Cartography (opening October 10, 2019); the exhibition,  Coordinates: Maps and Art Exploring Shared Terrain (April 25–September 30,2019); The Judah Map Digitization Project (2019); the conference and exhibition, Mapping the Global Imaginary, ‘1500–1900’ (2019); Understanding Ice: The James B. Case Memorial Exhibition (2019); and the conference and exhibition, A Universe of Maps – Opening the David Rumsey Map Center (2016).

Deardra received her B.A. in Studio Art with a focus on sculptural ceramics from The College of Wooster.  She has been an Instructor for the Stanford Arts Intensive Program since 2015 and teaches The Expressive Vessel: An Immersive Introduction to Clay.

Special Collections is excited to have Deardra bring her unique mix of interests and skills to the exhibits program.
