Special Collections Redwood City welcomes Gurudarshan Khalsa (for real)

April 1, 2020
Glynn Edwards

The Department of Special Collections & University Archives is pleased to welcome Gurudarshan into a continuing position in our Redwood City branch, taking over from Malgorzata Schaefer who is retiring as of March 31st. I am doubly pleased with this outcome, as Gurudarshan has been working on a series of term and grant-funded positions at Stanford Libraries since 2014 – in both Special Collections and the Archives of Recorded Sound.

This position is responsible for administering our external loans of special materials to borrowing institutions as well as processing our smaller collections as part of the “accessioning-as-processing” workflow. In the past year, Gurudarshan has processed an amazing number of collections as part of the Special Collections backlog project; and, with his experience, we are looking forward to expanding the accessioning-as-processing queue to encompass some medium sized collections as well. As part of this workflow, we will focus on digitizing single-item and small collections that are out of copyright and can be delivered online as well.

He will start on Wednesday, the 1st of April – virtually, as we all are right now. This will allow us to focus on walking through processes, tools, and documentation for the two main aspects of this position. So far, he has survived an information dump in two zoom meetings with more to follow!

Welcome Gurudarshan!
