Masterclass Media Foundation Videos
Masterclass Media Foundation of England films and records world-class musicians teaching students or discussing their own approaches to the works with which they are associated. The medici.tv database makes available 40 of the masterclasses.
Videos on keyboard music include classes with Stephen Kovacevich on Beethoven Piano Concerto no. 2, Beethoven Piano Sonatas no. 21 and 31, Chopin Fantasy in F minor, op. 49, and Schubert Impromptus nos. 1 and 3, op. 90; András Schiff on Bach Partita no.2, Beethoven late Piano Sonatas, and Schubert Moments Musicaux nos. 1, 3, and 4. There are also masterclasses with Emanuel Ax, Boris Berman, Stephen Hough and Joanna MacGregor.
Violinist Maxim Vengerov’s has several videos on the Bach Adagio and Fugue from Sonata no. 1 for solo violin, Beethoven Violin Sonata in A minor, op. 23, Britten Violin Concerto, op. 15, Mendelssohn Violin Concerto, Mozart Violin Concerto no. 3, K. 216, Ravel Tzigane, Shostakovich Violin Concerto no. 1, op. 77, Saraste Carmen Fantasy, op. 25, and Sibelius Violin Concerto in D Minor, op. 47. There are also videos of Zakhar Bron, Ana Chumachenko, Boris Kuschnir, and Rachel Podger.
Cellists Steven Isserlis and Frans Helmerson work with students on pieces by Dvorak, Rachmaninoff, Schubert and Schumann. Conductors Simon Carrington, Bernard Haitink and Kurt Masur teach Brahms, Handel and Mendelssohn. Sessions with Thomas Quasthoff, Emmanuel Pahud, Hakan Hardenberger, Dame Evelyn Glennie, Gábor Takács-Nagy, and Yuri Bashmet are included as well.
medici.tv is available to Stanford users. Connecting via the Music Library’s web page is the best way to access the database. If connecting from off campus, be sure that your browser has been configured properly. In addition the Music Library owns many of the videos which are searchable in SearchWorks. Videos may be used in the library or checked out for a week.
