Stanford to host renowned Taiwanese author Pai Hsien-yung

Stanford University will host two lectures by the renowned scholar and author Pai Hsien-yung on 10/24 and 10/25.  A documentary on Prof. Pai's life and scholarship will be screened at the East Asia Library on the evening of 10/23.

Prof. Pai Hsien-yung 白先勇 is a Taiwanese scholar of Chinese literature who taught at the University of California, Santa Barbara until his retirement in 1994.  Prof. Pai is known for his novels and short stories, as well as his  scholarship on Chinese literature and literary history.  With sponsorship from the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures and the Center for East Asian Studies, he will deliver two lectures (in Mandarin) at Stanford University's Bishop Auditorium on the Chinese novel Dream of the Red Chamber (Honglou meng 紅樓夢).  A documentary on his life and work, entitled "Pai Hsien-yung: Multiflorate Splendour" will be screened at the East Asia Library on the evening of 10/23.  Registration is required for all events.  For further information and to register, please visit the links below:
