East Asia Library

The East Asia Library will resume in-person research activities and access to physical collections for some Stanford users beginning on Monday, June 22.  Faculty (including emeriti), graduate students, post-docs, visiting scholars, and academic staff will be eligible to access the library's collections by appointment.

Beginning Monday, June 22, the East Asia Library will resume in-person access in order to support research.  The library will be open from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Monday - Friday.  Faculty (including emeriti), graduate students, post-docs, visiting scholars, and academic staff will be able to access the library.  A maximum of fifty-one visitors will be allowed in one day.

In order for eligible users to visit the library, they will first need to make an appointment.  Appointments can be made from the My Account page on the Stanford Libraries website.

Prior to visiting the library, users are required to complete the COVID-19 Hygiene Best Practices, EHS-2470-WEB in STARS.  Users must also use the Stanford Health Check Tool before coming to campus, on each day that they intend to visit the library.  Please follow the guidance provided by the Stanford Health Check Tool and do not come to campus if you feel sick or unwell.

When visiting the library, users should be prepared to show:

  • their Health Check status for that day
  • their current Stanford University ID card
  • their appointment confirmation

While in the library, visitors must wear face coverings at all time, and adhere to social distancing guidelines (remaining 6 feet apart from other individuals).

The East Asia Library basement will be accessible only for finding and retrieving materials from the library's collections, and is not open for studying.  Visitors who wish to access the basement will need an access card, which they can request at the circulation desk.

Group study rooms and seminar rooms will remain closed until further notice.

Some East Asia Library materials held at SAL1/2 and SAL3 are now available for paging and pickup at Green Library.  Items for which online access has been granted through the HathiTrust Emergency Temporary Access Service are not available for physical access.  Available materials may be paged to Green by clicking on the blue "Request" button in SearchWorks.

As of August 6, some materials can be paged for pickup at the East Asia Library.  More information can be found at our request and pickup page.

For more information on these and other requirements, please view the full list of entry requirements for Stanford Libraries.
