Damaged books on a bookshelf

We are excited to announce an upcoming workflow change for the Conservation Services and Collection Care (formerly Binding and Finishing) teams. Beginning September 1st, all book repair for circulating materials will take place in Collection Care at Lathrop, instead of Conservation Services in Redwood City. This change will help streamline the repair process as books will be assessed for repair, bindery, or housing needs in a single location. Library branches and units that regularly see circulating materials in need of repair should note that we will continue to offer the same repair options for bound materials in Collection Care.

This revised workflow is part of current efforts to restructure the Preservation department in order to better manage the preservation of library collections. Within Preservation, Collection Care handles the preparation and stabilization of circulating library collections in multiple formats; a process that includes assessing, reformatting, rehousing, and repairing fragile and damaged materials to ensure easier and continued access.

For any questions related to this change, please do not hesitate to contact Emilye Lewin, Collection Care Lead, at
