The Stanford Libraries have recently acquired a copy of Thomas Laird's Murals of Tibet, published by TASCHEN Books. This rare 498- paged item, measuring 19.7 x 27.6 inches and featuring a number of life-size reproductions of Tibetan Buddhist murals, is one of only a thousand copies produced.
New on the Shelf exhibition features rare books & contemporary artists’ books
A new exhibition in Stanford’s Green Library offers a window into recent acquisitions in Special Collections. Books—both manuscript and print—are the focus of the display on the second floor of the Bing Wing, on view September 4, 2018 through January 6, 2019.
Adelante Comunidad opens this week in the South Lobby of the East Wing of Green Library. The exhibit, which draws on posters and other materials from the collections of the Stanford University Archives, celebrates over four decades of graphic arts produced by the Stanford Chicanx and Latinx community. Many of the posters were transferred from El Centro Chicano y Latino earlier this year, and highlight educational events and speaking series sponsored by El Centro, and Stanford MEChA (Movimiento Estudiantil Chicanx de Aztlán).
From May 19 through May 31, the East Asia Library will host a pop-up exhibition featuring works of traditional Chinese brush painting produced by students in the Continuing Studies course ART221: The Art of Chinese Brush Painting, taught by Dr. Felix Chan Lim and Dr. Bobbi Makani-Lim. Dr. Lim and Dr. Makani-Lim will also host a workshop on Chinese brush painting at the East Asia Library on May 31.
The East Asia Library is hosting a new exhibition of photographs entitled "An Accidental Photographer: Seoul 1969," located in the display cases on the third floor landing.
The Stanford University Archives and the Native American Cultural Center are pleased to announce a new exhibit opening this week in the South Lobby of Green Library. Celebrating Native Community: 47 Years of the Stanford Powwow will be on display at Green Library through June 30, 2018.
