Book drops

The Terman Library has two book drops outside the library, one just outside the library’s main door and one down in the Arcade near the bicycle racks between the Huang Center and the Y2E2 Building. The book drop inside the library is at front desk. Books left in the book drops prior to our opening time in the morning will be checked in as though they had been returned on the previous day

Overdue notices

For twenty-eight day loans, courtesy overdue reminders are sent one day after the due date. For reserve items, courtesy overdue reminders are sent one day after the time due. The fine for overdue recalled items is $3.00 per day.

Fines/bills & blocks

If an item is overdue from the Terman Library collection, after 15 days a bill for replacement charges will be sent. The charges include a $150.00 replacement charge and a non-refundable $5.00 billing fee.  When the item is returned, the replacement charge will be removed. For reserves and hourly loans, fines accrue at the rate of $1.00 per hour. A bill for replacement charges, including a non-refundable $5.00 billing fee, is sent three days after the due date. Recalled items not returned by the new due date will begin accruing recall overdue fines of $3.00/day. A bill for replacement and suspension of privliges will occur eight days after the new recall date.

Library privileges can be blocked for several reasons, including unpaid library bills, registration holds, or invalid addresses. Student privileges are blocked when library fines, fees, or bills reach $50, faculty privileges are blocked at fees of $300 or more, and institutional privileges are blocked at fees of $1.50 or with any overdue books. All fines must be paid in full once a patron is blocked. For more information, please refer to the suspended privileges page.

You can pay your fines at either Terman or Green Library, or by logging in to My Account.

Lost/damaged materials

If you lose or damage a library item, please email or come into the library and speak with a librarian before you attempt to replace the item. For E-Readers, replacement charges are dependent upon the original cost of the device.

Holds & recalls

Library materials that circulate for a loan period longer than 14 days are subject to recall. Recalled items must be returned immediately if needed for course reserves or within 7 days of the recall notice, if needed for another borrower. A recalled item is assigned a new due date which supersedes the most recent due date for the item. Recalled materials must be returned directly to the circulation desk of the owning library. If you plan on leaving the area for an extended period of time, make sure to return your library materials before you leave. Exceptions cannot be made if a book is recalled while you are away. For more information, please refer to the borrower responsibilities page.
