This introductory workshop will focus on the fundamental concepts and skills needed to begin using Geographic Information Systems software for the exploration and analysis of spatial data using the open source GIS package QGIS. Topics covered:
What is a GIS?
Spatial Data Models and Formats
Projections and Coordinate Systems
Basic Data Management
The QGIS User Interface
Basic Analysis and Map Construction
Note: this workshop or prior GIS experience are required for most other SGC workshops. Must be a Stanford affiliate to attend.
