Mathematics & Statistics Library
Circulation and returns
All Stanford faculty, students, and staff are eligible to borrow materials from the Math & Statistics Library upon presentation of their valid Stanford ID. Non-Stanford users may purchase borrowing privileges. Contact Access and privileges at Green Library, (650) 723-1492 or email@example.com, for information about becoming a registered borrower and obtaining a valid library card.
Stanford faculty, students, and staff have full privileges according to the library's circulation policy. Those with purchased privileges may borrow books, technical reports, theses, and make photocopies from journals only. Privileges may be blocked due to fines, overdue or lost books, or because of an expired ID card.
The collections of the Math & Statistics Library and Falconer Biology Library are interfiled. The two collections have different policies regarding loan periods, overdue items, and fines. See Falconer Library circulation policies.
Your valid barcoded Stanford ID card is essential for checking out items from the library.

Holds and recalls
See Stanford University Libraries' Holds and recalls page.
Unless another user is waiting, 28- and 90-day loan items can be renewed online by Stanford borrowers twice. Once that limit is reached, renewals must be in person at the library with Stanford ID card and item(s) in hand. Journals and reserve items may be renewed in person only.
For online renewals, go to My Account.
Email renewals are permitted only for those borrowers without a SUNet ID. Send requests to firstname.lastname@example.org. In the message please include:
- your full name
- your Library ID number (the 9 underlined digits at the lower right corner of your current ID card)
- the barcode numbers of the books you'd like renewed (found on the inside of the back cover, beginning with 36105...)
Once sent, please allow one business day for processing. Always wait for a response stating either a new due date or explaining any complication preventing renewal. Never assume books have been renewed without confirmation.
Institutional borrowers can only renew books in person, providing one coupon for each book they want to renew.
Overdues, bills, and notices
For 28- and 90-day loans, courtesy due date reminders are sent two days before the due date. A bill for replacement charges, including a non-refundable $5.00 billing fee, is sent 15 days after the due date. For course reserves and hourly loans, fines accrue at the rate of $1.00 per hour. Courtesy overdue reminders are sent one day after the time due. A bill for replacement charges, including a non-refundable $5.00 billing fee, is sent three days after the due date. The fine for overdue recalled items is $3.00 per day.
You can return most Math & Statistics Library materials to any library on campus. Recalls, reserves, journals, iPads, and tablets must be returned directly to the Math & Statistics Library, Herrin Hall location. Items returned to Lane Medical Library, the Hoover Institution libraries, or SLAC remain checked out to the borrower until they are received and discharged at the Falconer Library.
Our Herrin Hall location maintains one bookdrop, just outside the entrance of the library.
