Raina Michel

The SUL Facilities team has bid a fond farewell to Raina Michel. Raina's last day with SUL was Friday, October 21st. We’re very pleased that Raina is moving to Zone Management, where she will be serving as administrator for Zone C. Zone C includes both Green Library and the Music Library, so we expect to continue working with Raina on a variety of projects. Please join us in wishing her well in her new role.

The Director’s office is welcoming Huey-Ning Tan in the role of Administrator to the Chief of Staff and Budget Officer.  Huey-Ning will be supporting SUL Facilities; SUL’s Chief of Staff, Mimi Calter; and SUL’s Budget Officer, Susan Horsfall; and will be assisting with both grant processing and reporting. Huey-Ning comes to the Director’s office from the Visual Resources Center. We’re very happy to have her aboard!

In this presentation, Merilin Piipuu will examine Estonian public media discussions surrounding the Museum of Occupations’ plan to refocus its permanent exhibit and rename the institution as the Museum of Freedom. She also will analyze the reception of the museum’s initiative to show a temporary exhibit about gay history in the Soviet Union. Piipuu will situate these initiatives in the historical context of Estonia and other former Soviet Union countries as well as in the memories of different generations and marginalized groups in Estonia, asking how these latter fit into a narrative of suffering.

Please join us for a tour of the Stanford Stories from the Archives exhibit currently on display in Green Library. Daniel Hartwig, University Archivist, will lead the tours and explain how and why the objects were chosen to help celebrate the 125th Anniversary of Stanford University.
