For researchers

Please note

You can access the Silicon Valley Archives in Green Library's Special Collections reading room. Please note that you must request all items to be used in the reading room at least two full business days in advance.

Search for archival collections

  1. Visit SearchWorks.
  2. Enter a search term (e.g., the name of a company, technology, or individual) into the search box.
  3. A results list will show all items from anywhere in the library that matches your search term.
  4. Click on Resource type > Archive/Manuscript in the left column to limit your results to archival collections. (Note: the Archive/Manuscript option will not appear under Resource type if we don't have any archival materials matching your search term. You can try other terms.)
  5. Click on a title in the search results list to see more information about the collection.

Request materials for reading room access

All materials in the archive can only be accessed in the Stanford Special Collections reading room. You can request materials to be sent to the reading room directly from the SearchWorks record. You can request up to 5 boxes per day and requests must be completed at least TWO full business days before you plan to visit the reading room.

See the Special Collections' "Using our collections" webpage for details.

Copies and reproductions

You may be able to purchase copies of materials depending on the physical condition of the items, copyright restrictions, and donor preferences. All copies are done by Special Collections departmental staff. Visit the Special Collections' instructions for requesting copies and fees.

The use of a personal digital camera in the reading room to make digital surrogates of materials is subject to Special Collections' policies.

For information on persmission to publish materials, see Special Collections' "Permission to publish" webpage.
