Computers and printing
The Robin Li and Melissa Ma Science Library houses 16 cluster computers and 7 public kiosk computers. The cluster computers are dual boot iMacs (Mac OS and Windows) and require SUNet access. The public kiosk computers run Windows and have limited access to certain applications and subscription-based online resources. All computers have USB ports.
Computer use policy
Please respect these guidelines. Bypassing the security, adding/deleting software, and modifying the System settings is unlawful and discourteous, and could be considered a violation of the Stanford University Fundamental Standard.
- "Cluster" computers are available only for Stanford students, faculty and staff. "Kiosk" computers may be used by visitors to Stanford.
- Computers are primarily for searching databases and using library resources. Do not store personal files or install software on the hard disk.
- Computers are for academic use only. Please be sensitive to the public nature of shared facilities and take care not to display, store, or print inappropriate images, sounds, or messages which could create an atmosphere of discomfort or harassment for others.
- Use of the University’s computers, network or electronic communication facilities (such as electronic mail or instant messaging, or systems with similar functions) to send, view, or download fraudulent, harassing, obscene (i.e., pornographic), threatening, or other messages or material that are a violation of applicable law or University policy, such as under circumstances that might contribute to the creation of a hostile academic or work environment, is prohibited.
- Do not reconfigure or alter any settings on the workstations.
- If others are waiting, please restrict use to 10 minutes on kiosk workstations, 30 minutes for other workstations (60 minutes CAS searching).

Wireless network access is available throughout the library. All wireless devices must first be registered in the Stanford network database (NetDB) before they can connect to SUNet. Printing, photocopying, and scanning
The Science Library has three print-copy-scan machines that work with Stanford’s campus-wide, cloud-based printing system. You can send print requests to any print-copy-scan machine within the libraries and student computing areas. Black & white printing and copying is $0.12 per printed side of page. If you print or copy a two sided document (duplex) you will be charged $0.24. Color printing and copying is $0.16 per printed side of page. The library has three additional scanners including a public-access scanner, an extra-large format scanner, and a color scanner that supports duplex scanning and auto-page feed for up to 50 pages at one time. You can save files to your personal AFS space or to a USB flash drive.
How to pay for printing and photocopying
You must use a Stanford ID card or a Stanford Printing Card with available funds to pay for printing. You can purchase a Printing Card at the circulation/loan desks at any Stanford Libraries location. A $5 card fee will be added during the first transaction of new Printing Cards.
