Library reciprocal programs
BorrowDirect: A resource sharing partnership of 13 Ivy Plus libraries
Stanford faculty, students, and staff are granted borrowing and on-site access privileges at the following BorrowDirect schools: Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Duke, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, MIT, Princeton, Stanford, Univ. of Chicago, Univ. of Pennsylvania, and Yale.
Stanford reciprocates this service for BorrowDirect patrons visiting Stanford Libraries.
Stanford members visiting Ivies Plus BorrowDirect institutions
Eligibility, registration requirements, and circulation rules vary by each participating institution. You may be required to log into My Account, present your University ID Card, and/or show a valid government issued ID Card when you visit a participating library.
Ivies Plus BorrowDirect members visiting Stanford
Students, faculty, and staff at participating Ivies Plus BorrowDirect institutions can apply for a Stanford Libraries Card at the Privileges Desk at Green Library.
- You must present a current government-issued ID, your home university ID card, and your active BorrowDirect account.
- Stanford Libraries cards cost $10 and expire annually; re-activation of expired cards is free. Only cash or check is accepted.
With a Stanford Libraries Card, you can visit all Stanford Libraries except for the following: Crown Law Library, Lane Medical Library, Lathrop Library, Graduate School of Business Library, Hopkins Marine Station's Miller Library, and the Classics Library.
You can check out up to 25 items. Borrowing periods vary by library and item type. Some items only circulate to Stanford patrons (e.g., course reserves, equipment, some media items). You are responsible for all fines and fees. Please use your My Account to renew books, manage holds/pages, and to pay fines.
Research Library Cooperative Program (RLCP)
RLCP is an agreement between Stanford and the University of California-Berkeley. Eligible Stanford visitors to UC Berkeley must present their Stanford ID Card for access and borrowing. UC Berkeley visitors to Stanford Libraries must present a government-issued ID card and a UC ID card for access and borrowing Use your My Account to view your account, renew books, manage holds/pages, and to pay fines.
Reciprocal Services Program (RSP)
RSP is a reciprocal borrowing program between Stanford and the University of California campuses. Stanford visitors planning to visit UC libraries must obtain a RSP Card from Green Library before visiting UC libraries. UC faculty, graduate students, and academic staff must inquire with their library staff for instructions and eligibility prior to visiting Stanford. UC-Berkeley patrons should use RLCP first.
