Borrowing from UC Berkeley

Check your home catalog first. You cannot request materials that are available at your home institution. Find materials to borrow in UC Berkeley's catalog, OskiCat. The Doe Library Reference Desk (510) 542-6657 can also help you locate materials. Be sure to review on-site access and borrowing policies before visiting the libraries of RLCP resource-sharing partners.

Sometime in Fall 2017, BorrowDirect will be available to you. BorrowDirect allows you to search and request items from the combined inventory of 13 Ivy Plus academic libraries, plus UC Berkeley. During the transition, Stanford Interlibrary Borrowing (ILB) will process RLCP requests on your behalf via BorrowDirect (the former RLCP request forms will be retired).  This page will be updated as procedures change.

  1. Submit an Interlibrary Borrowing request for each book, scan, or photocopy you'd like to request.
  2. Most article/chapter copy requests are supplied electronically in four to seven working days.
  3. Loans (books and media) will be supplied as follows:
  • If the item can be supplied by RLCP Direct from UC Berkeley:
    • We will email you when your item is available to pick up at Green Library’s main circulation desk.
    • You must view and renew these items via your UC Berkeley My Oskicat account.
    • These loans can be renewed multiple times for extensively long loan periods.
  • If the item cannot be supplied by RLCP Direct from UC Berkeley:
    • Loan requests not supplied by RLCP will automatically route to Ivies Plus libraries within BorrowDirect.
    • We will email you when your item is available to pick up at Green Library’s main circulation desk.
    • You must view and renew these items via your Stanford Libraries MyAccount.
    • Borrow Direct loans have a strict 8 week check-out period, with the option of renewing only once for an additional 8 weeks.
  • If the item cannot be supplied by RLCP Direct from UC Berkeley or BorrowDirect:
    • If your request cannot be supplied by the above, we will attempt to borrow your request from other libraries and academic institutions.
    • If we are unable to fill the request, we will send you a cancellation notice.
