Al Bersch joins Special Collections as the Robert Creeley Papers Project Digital Archivist

Staff news

Al Bersch

We are delighted to announce that Al Bersch will join the Department of Special Collections as the Robert Creeley Papers Digital Archivist on January 8th. Al brings with him a wealth of experience in managing digital archives and making them discoverable and accessible to the public.

Al comes to Stanford from the California Historical Society, where he served as their Metadata and Systems Librarian. Before the California Historical Society, Al served as the Archivist for Oregon Public Broadcasting where he managed digital content and metadata for born digital audio and video files.

When he’s not preserving California’s digital heritage, Al spends some of his free time dabbling in black and white film photography at the Harvey Milk Photo Center, a community darkroom in San Francisco.

We look forward to working with Al to make this rich and fascinating collection available to researchers. Funding to process the Robert Creeley papers is generously provided by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Al will be based in Redwood City in our Special Collections unit.

Welcome, Al!
