Rose Bowl--1971, Jim Plunkett

The Stanford University Archives congratulates the football team on earning its thirteenth trip to the Rose Bowl. In Stanford’s previous twelve Rose Bowl appearances, fifth most in the history of the game, their record stands at 5 victories, 6 losses, and 1 tie.

Tom Cramer, chief technology specialist for the Libraries and associate director of the Digital Library Systems and Services department, was appointed to the board of directors of DuraSpace, a not-for-profit organization founded “to save our shared scholarly, scientific and cultural record.”  In his acceptance note, Cramer said, “DuraSpace and its foundational projects, DSpace and Fedora, exemplify the power and potential of collaborative, open source software in the education and research community--enabling services that simultaneously benefit individual institutions and the collective good.”

Andrew Herkovic, the Libraries’ Director of Development and Communications, stated in an interview with The Stanford Daily that the proposed demolition of Meyer Library in 2015 and the move of the majority of materials from the East Asia Library (currently in Meyer) to a renovated Graduate School of Business South building (which housed the former Jackson Business Library) is the best of possible outcomes: “I and most senior staff understand it to be a brilliant solution to a vexing and intractable space problem.”

The Book Haven, a blog by our colleague Cynthia Haven, reviewed the lecture in Green Library on November 12 by independent scholar Chet Van Duzer, who discussed his latest book, Seeing the World Anew: The Radical Vision of Martin Waldseemüller’s 1507 & 1516 World Maps(Library of Congress and Levenger Press, 2012).  The 1507 publication was the first map to use the name “America.”
