Photography in library buildings
To protect our patrons' privacy and ensure their quiet enjoyment of our library spaces, photography and videorecording is prohibited within library buildings without the express written permission of the University Librarian.
If you wish to take photographs or video in the library, please complete the request form below, and submit it to the University Librarian. Note that review of your request may take several days, so please plan ahead.
Request for permission to photograph
Note that this request is for permission to photograph and does not release you from copyright or other license restrictions for use or display of any library materials. You must also separately request releases from any individuals you wish to photograph and submit these forms in advance of your shoot.
Request for permission to film
Any third-party request for filming at the Stanford University Libraries will require not only the approval of the University Librarian, but also 1) a certificate of insurance (COI) from the requestor and 2) a signed Location Agreement, as per University Communications guidelines. Previews of these documents are available to requestors in the Google form submission. Due to these new requirements, filming requests must be submitted at least two weeks in advance of any desired filming date to make sure all paperwork is in place and approved.
Photo and video releases
Please submit the full list of your photo/film subjects in the Google Form above. All subjects will be sent a Photo Release form to fill out and complete with Adobe Sign.
