Alison de Geus

I am excited to share the news that Stanford Libraries has a new Media Center Librarian, Alison de Geus!

Alison started in her new post as an assistant librarian overseeing Green Library’s Media & Microtext Center in January. In this newly created role, she will manage three full-time staff,  collections workflows, and frontline services. A focus for her will be driving numerous changes for the Media Center, including service, technology, and programming enhancements that support research and teaching at Stanford. As one of five managing librarians in the Access Services department, she will also be contributing to and supporting the department’s overall user-centered operations.

Alison brings a wealth of experience to this work, notably a decade in public libraries, most recently at the Palo Alto City Library as a supervising librarian. She has a proven record of advocacy for library staff and a passion for creating impactful and inclusive services and spaces. Her vision, creativity, and leadership will be an essential component to the growth of Green Library’s Media & Microtext Center profile.

In the near term, Alison will be meeting with a variety of stakeholders and working to identify efficiencies and new opportunities for the Media Center to best serve Stanford. With the Media Center staff, and in collaboration with the Acquisitions and Metadata departments, she will be assessing the media and newspaper processing workflows and the current periodicals maintenance pipeline. She will be working with the Film & Media Collections Curator and other library bibliographers on promoting analog and streaming media they select and purchase for the Media Center. She will also be building bridges to the library branches, service centers (such as the Media Preservation Lab, Special Collections, Digital Library Systems and Services), and broader campus activities. Most importantly, as the Media Center Librarian, Alison will be helping Stanford users get the most out of our collections and spaces and ensure that we tie their feedback and needs into our future planning.

Please join me in sending a warm welcome to Alison de Geus!
