Library materials are still moving, update June 2024

Notice

The Libraries’ project to relocate all materials from Stanford Libraries on-campus overflow shelving facilities (SAL1&2) to other library spaces is nearing the end, but it is not yet finished. The following affected collections still have limited access:

  • Rare Book Collection: currently moving to Green Library and will be inaccessible until mid-summer.
  • University Archives and the Manuscripts collections: Most materials are available. Records for newly processed manuscript material will be made available via the Online Archive of California and SearchWorks as they are processed.
  • General circulating collections: A small number of circulating general collections remain to be transferred. Library staff will route requests we receive for these items to our interlibrary services department to borrow them from a partner library.
  • Education Library: The main part of the collection is available on the 3rd floor of Green East. The historical textbook collection (including the locked stacks) will be moved to SAL Newark with only limited paging.
  • East Asia Library collections: Users should contact the East Asia Library for the current status of any EAL materials at SAL, including the Harvard-Yenching and the Nippon Decimal collections, the Korean, Chinese and Japanese big sets, and Locked Stacks items.

Thank you for your patience as we relocate over 1 million items!
