Update about Stanford access to NVivo software

Due to recent budget reductions and an increase in software costs, Stanford University Libraries (SUL) are no longer able to maintain institution-wide licensing for NVivo. Our license will expire June 30, 2026. We understand this software has supported teaching, learning, research, and administrative work across our community, and we recognize that this change may create inconvenience. We are actively considering another qualitative platform. Once a university approved platform has been identified we will follow up with you about next steps.
Accessing NVivo in the Libraries
SUL will provide access to NVivo on dedicated computers located in the Velma Denning Room 120F, Bing Wing of Green Library, and Cubberley Library Room 101 via appointment with Azure Stewart.
Azure will also be available to assist with this transition, basic troubleshooting and access to the dedicated computer station(s).
Azure will continue to provide bi-weekly workshops for those needing support. You can sign up for workshop sessions through the “Introduction to NVivo” event page and schedule 1:1 consultations for those who need further assistance by making an appointment.
Purchasing an NVivo License
You or your research group can individually purchase your own license through the Lumivero website.
Please connect with IRB to make sure you are approved for utilizing AI and Cloud platforms.
