History

SSDS’ provenance started in two services: ADS and SSS. ADS (Academic Data Service) was based in the Library and took requests for data from Stanford researchers. The data were ordered, cataloged and the data files and documentation were made available. SSS (Statistical Software Support) provided software consulting and workshops by doctoral students. In 1997, ADS was changed to SSDS (Social Science Data Service), and in 1999, the two data and software services were merged to form Social Science Data and Software (SSDS).  In 2021, the name was changed to Software and Services for Data Science (SSDS).
