  • Ripples for Revolution: Reflections on Like a Ripple on a Pond (1973)

    In 1973, renowned Black queer writer Nikki Giovanni (1943–2024) and the New York City Community Choir (NYCC), under the direction of their co-founder Benny Diggs, released the album Like a Ripple on a Pond . Co-produced by Giovanni and Diggs, the album features ten recordings, each a conversation between one of Giovanni’s poems and one of NYCC’s renditions of Black American spirituals and gospel songs.

  • Announcing the Martin Wong Catalogue Raisonné

    The Cantor Art Center’s Asian American Art Initiative (AAAI)—a series of long-term installations, special exhibitions, research, and education projects that operate in tandem with the museum’s ever-expanding collection of works by Asian American and Asian diaspora artists—has launched the Martin Wong Catalogue Raisonné (MWCR) in collaboration with Stanford Libraries and the Martin Wong Foundation (MWF). The MWCR is a free online resource featuring the paintings, drawings, poetry, and ceramics of artist Martin Wong (1946–99).

  • Stanford Libraries receives major Black music collection, supporting new department and expanding possibilities for research

    Bram Dijkstra, professor emeritus at UC San Diego, and renowned literary agent Sandra Dijkstra have donated their music collection, nearly 65 years in the making, of irreplaceable recordings of jazz, Jamaican music, blues, soul, and other genres. Stanford University Libraries has accepted the generous donation of the Dijkstra Black Music Collection, a selection of approximately 8,000 commercial vinyl discs in near-mint condition.
