Interlibrary loan for non-Stanford affiliates

Borrow materials from Stanford Libraries. Stanford Libraries lends monographs, periodicals, and newspapers on microfilm, some Special Collections and University Archives materials with approval, and some dissertations.

Requests for materials through OCLC

  • Submit requests for materials through OCLC using the symbol STF.
  • If you do not have access to OCLC, you can submit a request through our online lending request form.

Who can make a request?

  • Academic, public, corporate, law, and specialized libraries, U.S. government agencies, and non-profit organizations. Individuals need to submit their requests through their affiliated institution or local library.

What to expect

  • All requests are subject to copyright considerations and approval of the holding library.
  • Most requests are processed within three to seven working days. Delivery times depend on shipping method and distance.
  • Loans cost $25 per item.
  • Articles cost $20 per article and are limited to a maximum of 10% of the item due to copyright guidelines.
  • Payment options include IFM (Interlibrary Loan Fee Management) or prepayment by check in U.S. currency before the material is shipped.
  • Most items are loaned for four weeks and can be renewed for up to two renewal periods. Some items are not renewable. Loans are subject to recall.
